My dad would spend most of his after school time at the depot helping his dad. On Graduation Day, my granddad's boss told my dad that he had a depot waiting for him if he wanted it. My dad asked "Aren't you supposed to train me in first?" The reply was "You know what you're doing. I've been listening to your click on the key for a while, now." So was railroading back in the good ol' days. My dad had 4 sons.... Three of us drive truck!!! The other guy got smart. He does Air Conditioning & Refrigeration. I've been trucking for almost a quarter century, now. My fellow truckers ask me why I'm looking thru the windshield of a K-Whapper instead of a 90MAC! There are 2 reasons. First... When I hit the work force in the mid 70s, several mergers had just taken place, Amtrak, Conrail, & BN. When you put several companies together, you end up with a lot of unemployed railroad experience. Fresh out of high school with a low GPA, I didn’t stand a chance. When that was no longer a problem, I reevaluated my situation. "If I work for the railroad, I see this little stretch of track over, and over, and over again! BUT,,, Sitting in this Freight Shaker I see railroad all over the west and parts of the east. So, I drive with one eye on the road and the other on the rails.Explanation I'd love to have a model railroad, but there's no time for that driving truck. So I'll try to help you guys with ideas for your Picks. The purpose of this Web Site is to give model railroaders ideas of Paint jobs for locomotives & cars, and weathering effects on paint schemes, and much more. Alternative uses for retired railroad cars!! There are a lot of them. What do you do with a model box car that someone dropped on the floor for you? Turn it into a hay shed by the cow pasture. I see a lot of them out here. Also,, I know that most basement layouts don't have room for Abandon railroads, but an old half gone tussle could fit in some corner and isn't hard to do.
