Featured artisans range from little known crafters to the internationally renowned like master glass artist Stephen Rolfe Powell.Kentucky is a state with deep roots in American craft traditions. The state’s artisan heritage was born out of necessity in the 1700s as people made their way over the newly-discovered passage across the Appalachians, the Cumberland Gap. Everyday items that could be fashioned locally didn’t have to be packed in. Today, basket weavers, broom makers and blacksmiths produce their goods with many of the same techniques.
