Unfortunately with Googles latest gmail update they have blocked third party apps from reading gmails data. ( http://www.google.co.nz/support/forum/p/gmail/thread?tid=1728955d050a12bd&hl=en&fid=1728955d050a12bd0004a98130d17882). Until google opens this back up or I or someone else finds a work around. This widget will not function. Sorry for the inconvenience. Gmail widget for the Android Home screen to display unread Gmail counts by label and launch directly to the label.
