Sente Reference Manager for iPad

Sente for iPad is a companion app to Sente 6, the premier academic reference manager for Mac OS X. PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE THIS APP IF YOU DO NOT ALSO RUN SENTE FOR MAC OS X.

Sente for iPad lets you take any number of Sente libraries with you on your iPad. You can read and annotate PDFs, acquire new references from the web, take notes, edit references, send PDFs to colleagues, and more. And, with synchronized libraries, everything you do on the iPad shows up almost immediately in all other copies of your library, on any number of Macs and other iPads.


SYNCHRONIZED LIBRARIES

Any number of copies of a synchronized library can be installed on any number of devices (including both Macs and iPads). Changes made in any copy will be automatically reflected in all other copies the next time each copy is opened. The only requirement is an Internet connection (without restrictions on traffic on TCP port 993). The computers do NOT need to be on the same local network for sync to work.

Synchronized libraries must be created using desktop Sente. They can be installed on any number of other Macs and iPads. Once installed, nothing else need be done to keep them in sync.


PDF READING AND ANNOTATION

Sente for iPad includes a full-featured PDF reader, which includes the ability to highlight text and regions within PDFs. In a synchronized library, all PDF annotation is automatically reflected in all copies of the library, no matter where they are.


TARGETED BROWSING

Sente for iPad also includes the targeted browsing feature from desktop Sente that lets you add references to your library from many web sites with just a couple of taps. Using the embedded web browser in Sente for iPad, when you visit one of the supported sites, a target icon will appear next to each reference on most pages. Tap the icon and the reference data will be automatically downloaded and offered for import into the library. And, of course, all references added to the library show up almost immediately in all copies of a synchronized library.

Sente for iPad also includes support for tagging references, just like on desktop. It also includes a large number of built-in smart collections to help you quickly find references in large libraries. QuickTags are hierarchical in Sente, and you can modify the tag hierarchy within either Sente for iPad or desktop Sente.

You can install any number of libraries on your iPad, so you can maintain different collections for different purposes.

Each synchronized library can be set to download PDFs only on-demand if you want to save space on your iPad. As long as your iPad has an Internet connection, you can quickly download any PDF with a single tap, and remove it when you are done, without affecting the contents of any other copy of the library.

Dont yet own Sente 6 for Mac? You can download a demo copy from our web site and use it for 30 days for free. During that time you can create synchronized libraries of up to 50 references. (There is no limitation on the size of non-synchronized libraries during the demo period). And, if you download the free Sente Viewer app for iPad, you will be able to see how your changes flow immediately from the desktop to the iPad. (Because Sente Viewer cannot modify the data, you will not be able to annotate PDFs in that app, or make any other changes to your library, but in the full app, sync works in both directions.)
