The Telephone

"The Telephone" is a multimedia e-book based on the famous children rhyme by Korney Chukovsky, one of the most favorite children’s authors, was not only a Doctor of Literature, a splendid translator and a literary critic, but also an extraordinary expert on children’ psychology and a great poet. ★★★★★ Childrens books by Korney Chukovsky are as famous in Russia as those by Dr. Seuss in are in the USA. First published in 1926, The Telephone is still among the very first books which parents read to every Russian child. As for its genre, "The Telephone" is by all means a nursery rhyme – the poem is aimed at toddlers and small children. Besides, it can well be called a nonsense verse – an excellent one. No wonder - for some time, Korney Chukovsky lived in Great Britain in 1916 Chukovsky became a military correspondent for the newspaper called "Rech" ("The Speech") in Great Britain, France and Belgium. He knew English perfectly (he later became a famous translator of literature as well). So, he by all means read such authors as Edward Lear and Lewis Carroll in the original, and it seems that English nonsense verse influenced some childrens poems Korney Chukovsky wrote later in Russian.
