PhonicQuiz

PhonicQuiz can help your student to master the basic phonetic skills to pass state and national standardized reading tests. Students can practice sound discrimination by quizzing with beginning, ending, and vowel sounds. Each quiz consists of ten randomly chosen questions from one of three quiz banks. For practice with beginning and ending sounds, a speaker reads a word and the student must find the answer choice with the same sound. Practice vowel sounds by finding the word that has the same vowel sound in the quiz question. At the end of each quiz students are given a percent score.

These questions mirror the format used on many state and national tests. Students learn what to look for so that on the real test they can show their true reading skills. With more than 1,000 possible quizzes students will be able to practice as much as they need.


Beginning -- Practice identifying the word with the same beginning sound by listening to a spoken word and finding the match. This level has a special emphasis on consonant blends.

Ending -- Practice identifying the word with the same ending sound by listening to a spoken word and finding the match. A variety of vowels makes this level challenging.

Vowels -- Practice identifying the word with the same vowel sound by reading a word and finding the match. Vowels often have multiple spellings students need to be able to recognize. One of the most difficult skills to master.
