Guo Wei

The App contains photographs of all Guo Weis artworks since 1987, including those that have been shown for many times on international exhibitions and those been collected by notable artistic organizations and collectors.

This App also contains reviews and interview articles from four world-famous critics and curators, in which Guo has made a vivid depiction of his artistic experience as well as featured interpretation of his own artistic creation and concept.

-In Guos paintings, there is always a thin layer when handling the flesh, clothes and some other details. The thin texture sense gives the objects a feature of dissociation. They are all like silhouettes or a flat world appearing in dreams. This is a visual language that he sets up.
-The growing pain depicted by Guo Wei might be a kind of empathy originated from that of his own. But the artist has been always holding a unique human care. And he has been continuously probing into the real living situation of the boys and girls, which, added to the long time sensible research and exploration, naturally gave rise to the spiritual statues of the new generation of Chinese youngsters with the markings of the distinctive thoughts of Guo Wei. The real, deep and fresh artistic expression focusing on the boys and girls has gradually carving it marks in the cultural memory of the citizen society of China.
-The paintings of Guo Wei illustrate the inner emptiness of the new generation of urban people, which is interlaced by desire and hollowness. These people in the paintings all have some trace of the painter himself. (Many of them can be considered as the self portrays of the artist.) Guo Wei puts his eyes on humans. And he insists in presenting his "criticism to the inhuman and alienated relation among human beings" with the angle of a common people.
