Explore how Aesthetic artists, designers, poets and collectors promoted the idea of art for arts sake and how the idea of the house beautiful became a touchstone of cultured life.
Other features include a Walking Tour of Aesthetic Chelsea voiced by actors from performance group LiveCanon. Take a virtual stroll of an exclusive part of London, from Cheyne Walk, along London’s Embankment, to finish at Oscar Wilde’s house 34 Tite Street, Chelsea. The Walking Tour features exclusive maps and photographs of Chelsea and the iPad has the perfect screen to enjoy these images. There are also performances of poems from the period by Algernon Swinburne, William Morris and the Rossettis. Ten additional Aesthetic objects from the V&A are also featured on the App. Finally, there are three Audiographs of Aesthetic Women – poet Elizabeth Siddal, model Jane Morris and actress Ellen Terry.
