iLEAP Touch Spot Subtraction

iLEAP Touch Spot Subtraction introduces students to the subtraction strategy of using touch spots. Each number is assigned a corresponding number of touch spots to help students solve an subtraction problem by counting. iLEAP Touch Spot Subtraction is designed to help students learn, explore, apply, and practice this skill.

The iLEAP Series of apps focuses on four important steps in learning.
Learn - Students learn how to use the skill.
Explore - Students explore using the skill in different situations.
Apply - Students begin to apply the skill independently to solve problems.
Practice - Students use the skill without any support to solve problems.

This method of scaffolding provides the students with support at the beginning, and as the student improves, the support is gradually removed.

Learn - During this activity the student will learn the locations of all the touch spots for the numbers 1-9. The student needs only to touch each spot on the number and the subtracting will be done for them.

Explore - During this activity the student will begin to explore using this strategy with mixed facts. Students will still only need to press each touch spot as the subtracting is done for them.

Apply - In this activity the students begin to apply the skill by answering the questions on their own. The touch spots are still available for support, but the student must do the subtraction independently.

Practice - Students must now solve the subtraction problems independently without the touch spots. They are timed and their fastest time is recorded.
