Words in this Spelling app. start at a level which Kindergarteners need to know. Level 1 or the Dolch word lists are very appropriate for the younger children/grades. Word difficulty increases and the higher levels include words which middle school kids are working on. If a level is too easy or too hard, just move up or down a level.

The Spelling Drill app. has over 1400 words split into different levels. These words are high frequency words that are used everyday and are often the basis of the spelling program at schools. These word lists include words from the Dolch word list and from the Sitton Spelling program. You choose the level (level 1 is a good start for 1st grade etc.). Then, from the list of words, you choose the words to study.

Each word is shown for 3 seconds to give your child time to memorize it. Then the word disappears and blank lines appear. Your child should place the correct letters on the lines. This will earn a green light as positive reinforcement. If the word is wrong, you get a red light and have another opportunity to memorize the word and again write it correctly. After the study session, there is an optional test session.

What a great way to take advantage of those extra minutes while waiting for activities! Study a few words a day and watch those spelling marks improve.

Ok, Im one of those old fashioned people who believe spelling is important. Spell check isnt available everywhere! I like this app. because it starts with the very basic words and works its way up. You go at your own pace. Also, I had a question and e-mailed the developer and she responded the same day! For $1.99, I really thought I got my moneys worth.
