Map Tools is a utility that let users to fully utilize coordinates. Map Tools converts coordinates among various datums, coordinate systems and map projections. It also calculates distance and bearing between two coordinates.
Map Tools supports coordinates conversion between geodetic coordinates, UTM, UPS, MGRS and map projections in up to 232 datums.
The app is delivered with WGS84 ellipsoid and used as the default datum. You can purchase an add on that will provide you with an additional 232 datums, which include NAD27, ED50, OSGB36, EGSA87, AGD66, AGD84, GDA94 and a lot more.
The input coordinates can be entered through keyboard, pick wheels (like a slot-machine), and the input can also be pasted from the clipboard.
* Geodetic coordinates are given as the standard input latitude, longitude with "+" or "-" to indicate the polarity or hemisphere. + stands for east or north, and - stands for west or south.
* UTM or UPS are given as grid zone (the zone followed by the latitude band) with the easting and northing coordinate pair. In the Polar Regions, UPS is used instead of the UTM projection, and the zone is omitted in UPS specification.
* MGRS is used by NATO for locating square areas on the earth. The precision of the MGRS coordinate used here is five, which means that this coordinate would represent a one-meter square on the Earth.
* Georef is another grid based method of specifying locations on the surface of the Earth. The precision of the Georef coordinate used in this app is four, which permits the identification 1/100 minute quadrangles.
For datums that are associated with specific map projections, the corresponding projection is available to choose as the input or output coordinates system. Map projections that are currently supported in this application are
* Map Grid Australia (MGA) for GDA94 Datum
* British National Grid for OSGB36 Datum
* Swiss Grid for CH1903 Datum
* Greek Grid for EGSA87 Datum
* New Zealand Map Grid (NZMG) for NZGD49 Datum
* Singapore TM for SVY21 Datum
