When the natural wonder of producing kids does not work, things get complicated. This latest state-of-the-art issue of the collection closely follows an American couple’s journey to extend its family and the lives of surrogates in India.
Reasons are varied regarding why some couples cannot have children on their own. To fulfill their wish for a baby, they are confronted with many options that have economical, legal, and emotional consequences. “Global Baby” explores and demonstrates, with 3D animations, today’s possibilities for reproductive technologies—from in-vitro, to surrogacy, to embryo donation. The issue also shows milestones in reproductive science and reveals surprising facts and figures.
You will meet Blaze, an 18-month-old boy in Phoenix, Arizona. He has four parents. His dad is his biological father. Since his social mom can’t have children, the egg originated from an Indian donor. Another Indian woman acted as a surrogate mother. She carried and delivered Blaze in a Mumbai reproduction clinic. And of course, there is Blaze’s legal mom, the woman who raises him in Phoenix.
With extensive articles, dramatic photography, interactive graphics, special effects, and gripping videos, “Global Baby” explores the beauty and intricacies of reproduction today.
“Global Baby” features
1. A uniquely intuitive interface allowing a compelling and immersive user experience;
2. Richly illustrated in-depth articles;
3. Interactive maps and animated graphics showing which technologies are allowed in which countries and how much these different technologies cost;
4. More than one hour of videos;
5. Over 200 photographs; and
6. Interactive animations, 3D photographs, and info graphics.
As the thought of surrogacy might still be uncommon or even shocking to some, the collection also looks into the future and reveals some envisioned technologies, which seem unimaginable today. In the end, the outcome will remain the same the birth of a human being.
“Global Baby” is the second installment of the world’s first multilingual iPad magazine. It was conceived, created, and designed exclusively for the iPad. It is a single-themed monthly magazine that offers in-depth and high-class journalism. The first issue was on Prince William and the Royal Wedding.
In each issue, the collection looks at all relevant angles of one topic using all media available for the iPad. Such media are text, video, photography (panoramic and 3-D), audio, animation, rubbing, and much more.
The topics are of global relevance. They are timely, and they are updated on a regular basis.
The collection “comes close to being fit for a king,” as The Washington Post writes. “It’s simple and elegant.” It tells stories with “impressive graphics and much more breadth of content” than other iPad-only magazines, writes Bob Tedeschi (NYT)
