Whoever buys me
Cuts off my tail
Takes off my suit of silk
And weeps beside me as I die.
Or...
Why walk or run
When you can hop it
I keep the future
In my pocket
These riddles have been put together by author and long-time riddle maker, Emmanuel Williams and this is the first time they have appeared in print.
❝I’m a poet, a teacher and a riddler. I’ve been writing and telling riddles for years. I love them because they appeal to everyone. This week for example I’ve told riddles to a class of 8 year-olds, a roomful of seniors in a community center and to several nursing aides as I waited for a colonoscopy in a local hospital. They captivated all three audiences. In our niche-bound culture riddles are one of the very few forms that EVERYONE LIKES.
They’ve been around for centuries, and they’re part of most oral traditions.
Riddles use metaphor, simile, rhyme, repetition, word-blends, and free verse; they engage both the right and the left brains; they get you writing your own and trying them out on people. Riddles rock!❞ - Emmanuel Williams
