The thought behind After-Life

The idea for the After-Life application/website began when one of the owners of the company behind After-Life, Develappment Pty Ltd, sadly lost his best friend to a heart attack at only 43. Wayne was a seemingly fit and healthy, fun-loving guy, and his sudden passing was a huge loss to everyone that knew him. Wayne also didn’t have a legal will, and his family and friends were left wondering

•Did he have any insurance?
•Who was his accountant, lawyer, financial adviser?
•What did he own, and who did he want it to go to?
•Did he have online accounts that needed to be closed?

All these things had to be pieced together from sifting through his personal belongings, and hours of enquiries based on what was found – it went on for over 12 months before his estate could be finalised.

Step-by-Step

1. Download the app from the iTunes App Store.
2. Register an account with an email address and password.
3. Add details in the My Settings section of the app/website including your date of birth, the number of Caretakers needed to confirm you have passed away before your account is locked down and the contents are viewable by those Caretakers, and the delay period before the account details are viewable by your Caretakers.
4. Invite Caretakers – these should be your closest and most trusted family and friends, as they will be able to see the contents of your After-Life account when you have passed away (a bit like a will, but After-Life is not a legal will).
5. Enter details of your life (Life Items) in the My Life Now section of the app/website. There are broad categories (My Advisers, My Online Life, My Big Stuff etc.), and each Life Item can be set as “Reveal Now” or “When I’m Gone” for your Caretakers.
